It is a great honour to be the 2018-2019 President of the Canadian Medical Association (CMA). As the 1st female surgeon to take on the role in 151 years, I am excited at this opportunity to serve Canada’s medical students, residents, and physicians.

Born and raised in Winnipeg, I completed both medical school and residency training at the University of Manitoba. After completing Rhinology fellowship training BC, I have been in practice in Winnipeg since 1998.

Along with being a busy ENT (Otolaryngology-Head and Neck) surgeon in Winnipeg, I am an Assistant Professor at the University of Manitoba and have helped train numerous medical students and residents. Some of my current, local, provincial, and national medical leadership positions include:

  • President-Elect 2017 Canadian Medical Association
  • Head of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at St. Boniface Hospital
  • Assistant Professor with the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Manitoba
  • Member of the RAC 2 and Professional Learning and Development Committees for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada
  • Past Chair of the Physician Health and Wellness Committee and past Chair of the Section of Otolaryngology for Doctors Manitoba
  • Co-Chair 2015 Canadian Conference on Physician Health
  • Past Chair of the Continuing Professional Development and Global Health Committees for the Canadian Society of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery
  • Recipient of the 2017 Health or Safety Promotion Award from Doctors Manitoba

As a dedicated advocate for global surgery and the promotion of safe, accessible surgical care, I volunteer annually on surgical missions to low and lower-middle income countries. This volunteer work inspires me to work harder for my patients and the health care system. I am also passionate about physician health and wellness and have worked to support the health and well-being of doctors.

I am privileged to call myself a Canadian doctor and I look forward to working with the CMA to promote a vibrant medical profession and a healthy population.
